Happy Birthday, Gordon!

I have officially hi-jacked your mom’s blog for this post.  So Ginger, feel free to leave your comments.  *Grinning sheepishly.

Gordon, I just can’t believe you’re 15 already!  FIFTEEN! I mean, I knew it would happen since fifteen comes after fourteen.  Just didn’t expect it to happen so soon.

Just don’t expect a Quinceanera.  You know, because a Quinceanera is for a Latina girl and you’re neither of those.

So what should you expect?  God’s blessings on you, of course.  That is my prayer.  Gordon, from an infant you have been called the Man with the Word.  God has truly gifted you.

I love your ability to make others laugh.  But in the midst of all of that humor is God-given wisdom.  Use it!

As for your parents, I’ve been thinking of what they might expect now that you are fifteen and Jordon is thirteen.  I really wanted to prepare them at length for things like extensive damage to their garage due to teenage drivers.  I thought of including pictures and dramatic details about how each incident occurred.  I planned on using words like insurance deductibles and sheet-rock damage.  But that would be overwhelming for them.   So I’ll save it for my upcoming blog post.

I pray your day is blessed.  And Jordon, yours, too!  I love you both! I am so proud to be your Nanny.

SUPERNanny

Nanny,

I am so happy you decided to post this.  It just couldn’t have been better timing!  Gordon, I just want to echo her words by reminding you to use the wisdom He’s imparted and stay close to the Lord as you grow.  You have been such a blessing to Daddy and me.  There are no words to describe how much we love you and how much you mean to us, even Jordon… ha!

We hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Love,

Mom, Dad, and Jordon (Noticed I used big words here…reluctantly.)

The following article is submitted by Laura of I’m a Believer.  I am more than blessed to feature His word through her voice as this week’s post.  Please join me in sharing this timely message from our sister, minister and friend.  THANK YOU Laura for your obedience.

My sweet friend Ginger @ Here’s My Cup Lord asked me to write about MERCY a few months ago for The Daily Mercies, and I’m finally getting around to it.  (Sorry for the tardiness, Gin!  But I do thank you for extending this challenge to me.)  When I accepted, I didn’t know that it would prove to be such a challenge, but as I’ve consciously looked at God’s mercy for the past few months, I began to see how vast His mercy is and how freely and justly He extends it – far more than could be expressed by my simple words in a blog.

Mercy and grace are often paired together when describing some of God’s greatest gifts to us.  Grace being the giving of good things undeservedly, and mercy being the withholding of bad things, also undeservedly.  They go together beautifully, but I believe that mercy must be greater or at least come first, because without the gift of mercy, we would never even have the opportunity to enjoy God’s grace.

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.  ~Lamentation 3:22-23

As I studied the GOODNESS of God, I became more and more convinced that God’s goodness is epitomized in His mercy.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.  ~Psalm 136:1

Psalm 136 says that because of God’s enduring mercy, we can know and be thankful that He is good.  After beginning with a declaration of God’s goodness and his mercy, the psalm lists all the things God has done for His people and repeats 26 times that God’s mercy endures forever!  Were it not for His great mercy, we would not be able to receive His great blessings.

In who He is, God is merciful.

In creation, God is merciful.

In defeating our enemies, God is merciful.

In delivering us from bondage, God is merciful.

In making the impossible possible, God is merciful.

In leading us through the wilderness, God is merciful.

In slaying the strongholds in our life, God is merciful.

In giving His children a heritage, God is merciful.

In remembering us, God is merciful.

In redeeming us, God is merciful.

In providing for our physical needs, God is merciful.

I give thanks to the Lord for He is eternally merciful!

When the Solomon’s temple was completed (2 Chronicles 5), and  the congregation gathered together to restore the ark of the covenant to its rightful place, they praised God together and declared God’s goodness and mercy with amazing results:

It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;  So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.  ~2 Chronicles 5:13-14 (emphasis added)

God has a supernatural mercy both for His children and for unrepentant sinners that I cannot comprehend, yet for which I am eternally grateful.  This supernatural mercy was extended to me while I was in the process of rejecting Him.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  ~Romans 5:8

It continues to be extended to me now that I am one of His own.  Daily He gives mercy freely and completely.  Christ died for ME! and declares now that since I have received His ultimate gift of mercy, the sacrificial death of Jesus, that I am the temple of His Holy Spirit.

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?  ~1 Corinthians 3:16

Imagine the power we will have as Christians, when we declare that God is good and recognize that His mercy endures forever, when the glory of the Lord fills our temples so completely that our flesh cannot stand because of His glory!  My challenge to myself daily, and to any of you who would pick it up, is to declare daily the mercy of God in all things, and then to walk in victory because of the glory of the Lord that will fill your temple.

Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.  ~Psalm 118:4

I’m a Believer!

Inspired by Kara and her Kitchen Creations, I wanted to make something Asian for my family.  I knew it had to be something we’d all eat, with me being the pickiest of all.  I was reluctant to try Ramen Noodles, but after a lil’ taste from my hubby, needing a quick fix meal, and the genius of my youngest son, Jordon (who actually came up with this recipe), I am sold!  So, with a little ground sausage, leftover BBQ chicken, Guidry’s Creole Onions (chopped onion mixture), beef or chicken broth, Authentic Soy Sauce, and Ramen Noodle packets a series of new dishes was born.  Here are some pics of the results.

BBQ Chicken w/o Peas

The basic recipe is simple.  Put noodles on to boil and prep as directed.  Brown or warm your leftover sausage, beef, turkey, or chicken with onion mixture.   Add soy sauce and broth, then stir in noodles and packets to taste.  As a final touch, add some peas and a lil’ parsley for color.

For another great addition, try some toasted wanton wraps, which we also made as a desert.  We brushed them with water so the edges would stick, filled them with some leftover choco coated pecans, and folded them up to close.  We then fried and dusted them with Hershey’s Cocoa.  It was a perfect combo.  The coco broke up the sweetness and the desert itself went well with this savory dish.  Not bad for using what you have on hand and works great with leftovers.

Ok, so today will mark the beginning of my randomness with Andrea at Under Grace and Over Coffee.  Yay!  Sharing coffee with someone who speaks yaya WFM!  Now really, ladies, I wont bore you with many tales of woe.  I’ll just ramble on, jumping from subject to subject  as we often do.

Actually, I hope to keep these short and sweet for those days I’m all out of chocolate.  Yesterday we began hosting a Web-Wedding shower for Jeni Friend.  That is her name and a friend she had quickly become.  We are planning our next shower on Sunday, June 14th.  I will probably be posting early since it lands on Sunday.  This will give all of you time to join the fun and get your virtual gifts together.  I have actually set this up as a mini-meme so others can join with their individual posts.  I can’t wait to see what everybody comes up with!

What a way to meet each other!  Jeni has lots of friends whom she knows in real life within her blogging circle.  Then there’s those of us who have only known her for the short time she’s been blogging with us.  How great is GOD that He would arrange such a meeting?!

Now on to another subject concerning memes.  (How’s that for random?)  My sis and I are hosting The Daily Mercies on Sunday, which has received very little traffic.  We are hoping this is mainly because of our choice in days.  So, with Sundays being the day of rest, we are considering a move to Saturdays.  While we sincerely do not wish to interfere with any of the other memes out there, we feel this is the best day for us.  We thought it might be a good idea to poll this question and get your opinions on the matter.  I am not sure how to go about that, so for now… what do you think?  Do you have any further suggestions in helping us get the word out and inviting others to join?

If so, please let us know and leave us your comments.  We would not only love to hear what you have to say, we would also love to have you become a part of what is so close to our hearts.  You may even want to read the rules and scroll our blogs here and there to see what we’ve shared in the past.  Thanks for helping us out ladies.  Go ahead and grab another cup of coffee for this one… ha!
