Jehu Anointed King of Israel (NIV)

“The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company of the prophets and said to him, “Tuck your cloak into your belt, take this flask of oil with you and go to Ramoth Gilead. When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room. Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head and declare, ‘This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!” 2 Ki. 9:1-3

To some He appointed in private.

When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did this madman come to you?” “You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied. “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.” Jehu said, “Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ ” They hurried and took their cloaks and spread them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet and shouted, “Jehu is king!” 2 Ki. 9:11-13

All will know and honor him (you).

“Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.” 2 Ki. 13:18-19

Seek Him and follow through completely.

“Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet. 2 Ki. 13:21

Where His anointing is present, there is life.

“In the second year of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah began to reign. He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not as his father David had done. In everything he followed the example of his father Joash. 2 Ki. 14:1,3

Follow His example, not man’s!  (I love this quote my husband placed on our home-school web site.  It just seems to fit, doesn’t it?: “Example is a language anyone can read.”)

“Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, with the challenge: “Come, meet me face to face.” 2 Ki. 14:8

Your adversary will beckon: meet him face to face.

“You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?” 2 Ki. 14:10

Do not let him provoke you.

“Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate—a section about six hundred feet long.” 2 Ki. 14:13

He will bring his own destruction and tear down his own wall.  Let nothing stand between you and the place of peace (Jerusalem).

“Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:5-8

Give EVERYthing to God, resist the devil, and refuse to waiver!

“But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.” 2 Ki. 1:3-4

Arise and speak the words of the Lord.

“Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down. And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly. And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.” 2 Ki. 1:9-13

Come down.  Know your place.

“Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight. And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king. And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.”  2 Ki. 1:14-16

Know who you are, and do not be afraid.

“And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.hold ye your peace. And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho. And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.” So they went down to Bethel.  And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.” 2 Ki. 2:2-5

Hold your peace, follow the Master and remain under His covering.

“And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on. And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan. And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.” 2 Ki. 2:6-10

Do not be afraid to inquire of God, no matter how difficult it may seem.

“And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces. He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over. And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.” 2 Ki. 2:11-15

Take your position and walk in His ways.

“And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not. And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?” 2 Ki. 2:17-18

Do not defer from His voice.

“So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake. And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.” 2 Ki. 2:22-24

Touch not God’s anointed.

In closing, I would like to add some additional notes as written in my bible from a message preached by a previous pastor (my paraphrase).

When following the path around the mountain, or in the circle of His will, follow the path of relationship verses religion and his action verses your own ambition.

  1. Leave everything behind (This includes past people.)  Sin not.  (Repentance is not an apology; it is turning away.)
  2. Separate yourself.  (Otherwise, will destroy the anointing.)
  3. Reaffirm yourself (His word) – be hungry!
  4. Cross over!
  5. Go through Jordan. (The place of the enemy.)
  6. Face the enemy!
  7. Your mantel (His glory) will fall.
  8. Put it on!!

“And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses. And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.” 1 Ki. 22:4-5

Be careful of your communication and always inquire of the Lord before going into battle.

“And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good. And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak. So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.” 1 Ki. 22:13-15

KNOW His voice and follow Him.

“And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD? And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace. Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.” 1 Ki. 22:16-17; 23

When you KNOW His way, walk in it.  Do not seek your own path—your own will.

“And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle. And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.” 1 Ki. 22:30; 34-35

You cannot outrun God.  He will cause His word to come to pass.

“And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places. And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.” 1 Ki. 22:43-44

Do not compromise the Voice of Truth!

“Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber. Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not. And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.” 1 Ki. 22:48-50

Repair the broken places and turn completely toward Him.

  • Small Straws In A Soft Wind by Marsha Burns — November 7, 2008:

Shake off the defilement of recent distractions that have taken you away from kingdom focus and kingdom purpose. There has been a dissipation, a diversion, a scattering from the central theme of your existence. Make a concerted effort and take the time to get back on holy ground, says the Lord. Be done with everything that has diverted your attention away from your faith and hope in Me.
1 Peter 1:17- 21 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

You know ladies, this post has been a long time coming, as I guess you could say, it’s about time.  It’s about time I step out of myself, and learn to trust Him with each step of faith, through each word I write.  Often I have found it hard to come to you with simple daily thoughts, or even stronger words, as I am entrusting Him.  With that said, I am careful of my communication and only want to embrace and impart His love.

The above passage speaks to my heart, as I am learning to dream big again, while embracing the promises of my heart.  I am learning to redirect my focus to the fullness of His view; rather than, my own.  Recently I came across this scripture:

Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name. Amos 4:12, 13.

Wow!  Those are definitely strong words!  “Prepare to meet thy God…”  okay, that makes me pursue obedience even further.  Then, in continuing through the book of Amos are these verses found in chapter 7.

And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small. The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD. Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.   Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.  The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD. Amos 7:2-6

The key words standing out here being, “The Lord repented… “  What the Lord “repented”?  First of all, we know this word to mean changed His mind, so this is another reminder to us of the power of intercession.  The verses are speaking of the reproval of Israel, and we can apply them today as well.  Though we may look at them in different ways, let’s key in on this factor.  When we have, or we are facing His judgment, there is still room for divine intercession where we can rely on His mercy yet again.  He is God, and He is just.  We must not deny the strength of His words.  That’s why it is so important for our words to be His.  If you look a little deeper, the words to follow will then be all the more important.   …”It shall not be, saith the LORD.”  He stopped His plans that were already in motion through the intercession of the everyday man who was being called out as prophet. (verses 14, 16)

Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: and the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel. Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD…

That’s pretty powerful to me.  It reminds me of my favorite verse in scripture Num. 23:19.  Have you ever noticed how we often leave the latter part off there as well.  Look closely.

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

I even find myself having a hard time remembering that part.  Excuse me, this is where He says He will make good on His word.  You mean, I, can rely on what He’s telling me.  Then, why do I question Him?? Why do I not simply trust and obey.  Why are there still some situations where I continue to fall?  Where I continue to struggle? Then, with His still small voice He reminds me of how this is where His strength is made perfect in me, and not of myself.

With this comes the exhortation that the price of the anointing is still obedience, and if I want to be used of Him to the fullness of His word and who He is in me, then this is what must make my blog stand out.  His word.  I must write His word.  I hope You will find your place here with me at the Lord’s table as I continue to share my cup with you.  This is how I hope to get noticed even more through my blog, as Darlene points out so well in her recent post filled with insight and easy ways to get yourself out there.  I am also glad I stopped by and received the inner reminder to keep up with my posts.  (Thanks Darlene, I needed that!)

Okay, I’m off for now.  No snoring please.  I went a little over, but hey, I’ve left two great links for you.  First, go check out what Laura had to say about dreaming big, and you locals may want to scroll down and find out more about tonight’s conference.  There’s still time.  Come on, I hope to see you there.

Second, go check out what Darlene had to say about getting noticed.  We are already trying to implement her advice.  See more this Sunday with The Daily Mercies.  (Wait, I can’t leave without thanking Laura for her wonderful teaching on dreaming big.  Love the acronym!  Ladies, really, what would we do without each other and this wonderful bloggyword!??)

Father empty me, filling me with more of you…

Today I want to begin a new series entitled “Ten Minute Messages”.  This will include a short devotion inspired by Rachel Ray’s “30 Minute Meals”.  Here we will eat at the Lord’s table and encourage each other through His promises.  (By the way, I will generally use the King James or New King James versions of the bible.  The following verses are taken from the New King Version.)

Think about the verse in the bible where He instructs us to choose this day whom we will serve

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

From there, think about how He gives us many choices such as, choosing to praise, worship, or even study His word.

Think about choosing to follow after hope, finding freedom, and choosing to receive a double portion.

“As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you. Zech. 9:11, 12″

Sure He is definitely the provider of these and all things, but He has also placed within each of us the ability to choose them.

What will you choose today?  Choose this day not only to serve Him, but to serve Him with a heart of worship.  Praise him with sacrifice even when you don’t even feel like it.

Choose to trust Him and know He has the answer.  Join me today and choose the message of the cross.  Choose to receive healing and all that He has for you.  He is our deliverer who desires that receive all that He is.

Will you choose Him today?
