I recently began a quick tour of His Word meeting Peter, James, and John in an effort to know the three who walked so closely with Jesus as to be the very ones who stood beside Him when He brought death to life.
“And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James” (Mark 5:37, KJV).
- John was the first, his distinction was to deny himself and proclaim Christ. {When questioned who he was he said he was not Christ, Elijah, or the prophet. He specifically states the one who will come after him was before him.}
- James opens with great wisdom and instruction of faith and following after God with complete obedience. {He speaks against double-mindedness, temptation, and sin.}
- Peter speaks of salvation and life after conversion. {He admonishes us to walk according to the Spirit—what is incorruptible—and stand on the foundation of the Word. He reminds us to walk in love.}
This prompted me to take a closer look into the gospels as I explored the life of the One we celebrated through the Christmas season and those hours leading to His death. If these were the three whom He imparted much favor, I knew I wanted to learn from them.
Please join me in the coming weeks as I share posts from this series and embrace the lives of those flawed, forgiven, and favored.
