Watch and Do Not Withold

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (Matthew 25:13, KJV)
He teaches us to prepare for our Groom who is to come for us.
For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. (Matthew 25:29, KJV)
Then, He teaches us about faithful stewardship of our talents—our finances. Isn’t it interesting how He speaks of the two in the same place? From the pursuing Bridegroom to the wisdom of His bride, then on to the wisdom of His good stewardship, we see the marriage covenant unfold.
And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: (Matthew 25:32, KJV)
Setting aside their literal interpretations for some practical ways to place these verses in the center of our lives, from sowing and reaping to walking separately from the the things of this world, we see our commission to serve with integrity.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (Matthew 25:46, KJV)

Then we close with that final push—an extended reminder of what it means reach a little farther, to give a little more, and “occupy until He comes” (Luke 19:13).

I can’t help but think of this in relation to my own marriage, where I selfishly want more. More time. More attention. More stuff. Then, I think of *His* wanting more from me. I see less time. Less attention. Less stuff.

I see where I fall short, where I refuse to wait, and where I withhold my hand. Then, I remember to fill my lamp.
