Hope

So, I was thinking of what to write in my next post, and my husband directed me to talk about cancer.  I thought, what a great idea—this being a subject on our minds recently with our concerns for friends Mary and Randy and others who have been affected by this terrible disease.  Though I haven’t experienced this personally, I can see how so many lives have been damaged by its various forms.

Defined, by Webster, as something evil or malignant that spreads destructively, cancer seems to eat away at the very core of those affected.  We’re not just talking about the physical here.  I can’t begin to imagine what turmoil this brings upon the mind and spirit.  Even the strongest of believers have been hit hard by this disease.  What do we say to someone suffering from this disease?  How do we comfort them? Sure, we have our faith—without which how can anyone make it through such a terrible disease—but still we struggle with the answer.

At best, we pray.  We stand upon His word.  We seek wisdom for doctors and staff, and we believe for complete healing.   We try our best to speak words of affirmation and not listen to the hindering voice of the enemy.  And, as I am learning even now, we remain consistent and steadfast no matter the outcome.  Whether in remission, or in full force, we place our prayers at His feet.  These people, these families, covet our prayers and encouragement.

It is His word that offers hope, hope that offers joy, and joy that offers strength.  I am so thankful to have a husband who has stood upon the word with prayers believing for healing and restoration for Mary and Randy and for each of you who are standing with us.

“Oh, that we might have our request(s), that God would grant what we hope for… ” Job 6:8 (NIV—my edit)
