Trusting in the Hope of My Calling

Hey Ginger – I was re-looking at your blog this evening and noticed your theme verse once again… Your blog has always reminded me of my best friend who loves coffee – and I love your title and your scripture. She recently returned from a mission trip to Brazil, a trying trip that many have gone on, and once back they leave the church and sometimes stop serving the Lord altogether. Upon her return, I asked her if she had any insight into why this would be. At first her answer was that maybe they weren’t spiritually mature enough to handle all the warfare. She told me later that she didn’t feel comfortable with that response, but didn’t know what else to say. As she was praying, the words of Jesus in your theme verse came to her… “Let this cup pass from Me, nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

What she told me after that is that anything worth doing (inlcuding a mission trip to Brazil) requires sacrifice of self. Even Jesus did not want to drink from the cup, but He did. We need to be willing to drink from our cup – whether that cup is going overseas for missions, sacrificing for our children, writing a blog, cleaning the church toilets…whatever is His will for us. The Lord promises to fill our cup to the point that it is running over. We just have to be willing to drink from the cup… I pray that even when things get discouraging for you, you will drink from the cup if it be that the Lord is the one who has given it to you.

Wow, I LOVE Laura’s comment! What a wise and encouraging thing to say. It really does get to be a sacrifice at times, but like anything else, it can and may be a mission field.
